OSHWPP Model Program Workshop Features Hazard Communication and
Chemical Management System
The Hazard Communication and Chemical Management System Occupational Safety and Health Worker Protection Pilot (OSHWPP) model programs will feature a 2-day workshop on Monday and Tuesday, October 24-25, 1994, immediately preceding the Department of Energy (DOE) Third Annual Occupational Safety and Health Conference. The OSHWPP program was established to identify DOE contractors with excellent safety programs and make these programs available to other contractors.
Hazard Communication
EG&G Idaho, Inc., will present its model Hazard Communication program that focuses on chemical hazards, including identification, procurement control, and employee training. The program was developed for the sprawling 890 square mile Idaho National Engineering Laboratory Site. The unique elements of the program were developed to accommodate a geographically and administratively decentralized safety and health arrangement while minimizing redundancy of effort.
Chemical Management System
The companion workshop is devoted to Pacific Northwest Laboratory's (PNL) Chemical Management System. It is a tracking and inventory system used to identify and control chemical inventories in its facility. The program uses barcode labels and a computerized database to manage its chemical inventories.
Contents of the Workshop
- Detailed descriptions of both programs, including how they can
work together to enhance employee protection.
- Demonstration of EG&G's System 80 and PNL's Chemical Management
System databases.
- Argonne-East and Brookhaven National Laboratory's experiences as
OSHWPP pilot facilities for these two model programs, including
technology transfer benefits produced at the pilot facilities.
- A diskette of Argonne National Laboratory's hazard communication safety program, developed for OSHWPP, will be provided for each attendee who requests it.

The workshop will be held on October 24 and 25, 1994, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA 92108.
