Idaho Operations Office Assessment Best Practices, May 2004

Idaho Operations Office (NE-ID) has developed an electronic document management system that increases the effectiveness of their process and reduces the time to perform the SQAIP I&C safety software assessments.

The basic procedural steps include:

  1. Created checklists for upgrades and no upgrades from the SQAIP I&C CRAD 4.2.3.2. A sample checklist is available.
  2. Emailed the checklist to the assessed organization. 
  3. The assessed organization inserted URLs / links to their electronic document management system that addressed the applicable CRAD element. 

It was estimated that 90% of the field investigation time was conducted in the assessor's office rather than in the field. Both the assessing and assessed organizations believe that using this methodology reduced the amount of time spent on the assessment by roughly 25%, over conventional methodologies.
