Dear Mr. Chairman:
In your February 6, 2008, letter regarding the need for a safety-significant water supply for the Highly Enriched Uranium Material Facility (HEUMF), you requested a report and a briefing addressing plans for improving operational reliability of the HEUMF water supply and long term plans for providing a safety-significant water supply.
You were briefed regarding short-term actions that included installing safety-significant pressure monitoring and flow path controls to improve reliability of the HEUMF water supply on May 27, 2008. The briefing also included long-term plans to supply fire sprinkler water to HEUMF from the safety-significant water supply planned for the new Uranium Processing Facility.
The enclosed report Evaluation of 9720-82 Facility Potable Water Interface and Proposed Connection to Uranium Production Facility Safety-Related Water Supply (U), addresses your request articulated in your February 6, 2008, letter and provides additional details regarding short and long term actions and plans.
