Enclosed is the
Department of Energy’s (DOE) Implementation Plan (Plan) for the Defense Nuclear
Facilities Safety Board’s (Board) Recommendation 2008-1, Safety Classification of Fire Protection Systems.
This Plan provides
the Department’s approach for evaluating the design of fire protection systems
used in nuclear safety and other critical applications and to develop
additional design and operational criteria for these systems for incorporation
into DOE directives as appropriate.
DOE appreciates the support provided by the Board and its staff during
the development of this Plan. We will
keep you and your staff informed of our progress in implementing the Plan.
