The Honorable A. J. Eggenberger

Chairman

Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board

625 Indiana Avenue, NW, Suite 700

Washington, D.C. 20004-2901

Dear Mr. Chairman:

The Department of Energy has updated its Implementation Plan to Improve Nuclear Materials Packaging, developed in response to Board recommendation 2005-1, Nuclear Materials Packaging.  This update reflects changes in schedules for deliverables that are necessary due to the larger than anticipated effort needed to resolve comments and complete development of the proposed nuclear materials packaging manual.  The revised schedule is enclosed.

If you have any questions, please contact me or Dr. James O'Brien, our responsible manager for plan implementation, at (301) 903-1408.

Sincerely,

Samuel W. Bodman
