The Honorable A. J. Eggenberger
Chairman
Defense Nuclear Facilities
Safety Board
625 Indiana Avenue, N.W., Suite

Washington, D.C. 20004-2901
Dear Mr. Chairman:
The purpose of this letter is to
provide you an update on our path forward and schedule for achieving full
implementation of the Site Office Quality Assurance Programs (QAPs) as
committed in our letter of December 6, 2005, on Commitment 10A of the Department’s
2004-1 Implementation Plan. Five site
offices have developed updates to their QAPs to incorporate the requirements of
DOE Order 414.lC, Quality Assurance. We
are in the process of reviewing and approving updated QAPs for Livermore Site Office,
Sandia Site Office, Savannah River Site Office, Y-12 Site Office, and Kansas City
Site Office. We expect similar updated
QAPs from Nevada Site Office by February 2006, Pantex Site Office by March
2006, and Los Alamos Site Office by June 2006. We plan to perform peer reviews of the Site
Office QAP implementation in September 2006, as a part of the Roadmap for
Nuclear Facility Quality Assurance Excellence.
Should you have any questions,
please contact Rabi Singh at (301) 903-5864.
Sincerely,
Thomas P. D’Agostino
Assistant Deputy Administrator
for Program Integration
