MEMORANDUM FOR: MARK B. WHITAKER, JR
DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENTAL REPRESENTATIVE TO THE DEFENSE NUCLEAR FACILITIES SAFETY BOARD
FROM: JAMES McCONNELL
CHIEF OF DEFENSE NUCLEAR SAFETY, NNSA
SUBJECT: Transfer of NNSA Lead for DOE Implementation Plan for Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2004-2, Active Confinement Systems
The purpose of this memorandum is to inform your office of a change in the NNSA lead for executing the commitments and deliverables associated with DOE’s Implementation Plan for Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2004-2, Active Confinement Systems. In part, the Office of Chief of Defense Nuclear Safety was established to be provide technical nuclear safety leadership on cross-cutting nuclear safety issues, and this has been effectively accomplished as part of establishing the Safety Related Ventilation System Evaluation Guidance (deliverable 8.5.4). The remaining deliverables focus on executing that guidance, which generally falls under the purview of our line offices.
My office will continue to provide assistance, as needed, as part of our overall operational awareness responsibilities.
The overall technical lead NNSA will be Xavier Ascanio.
