The Honorable John T. Conway
Chairman
Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board
625 Indiana Avenue NW, Suite 700
Washington, D.C 20004
Dear Mr. Chairman:
I would like to invite you or a member of
the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (Board) to be a guest speaker at
the 2004 Facility Representatives Workshop scheduled for May 18-20, 2004, in
Las Vegas, Nevada.
The purpose of the workshop is to share
safety lessons learned on effective oversight of hazardous facilities. A central component of the workshop will be
presentations by Facility Representatives on their first-hand experiences
overseeing operations in their facilities. In addition, we will focus on lessons learned
from the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB). Brigadier General Ronald J. Haeckel, Principal
Assistant Deputy Administrator for Military Applications, will provide the
keynote address, and Major General (Retired) John L. Barry will provide a
summary of the CAIB report. A preliminary
draft agenda for the workshop is enclosed.
We appreciate the continued interaction of
the Board and its staff regarding the Facility Representative Program.
If you have any questions regarding the
workshop please contact me at 202-586-3887, or have your staff contact John
Evans.
Sincerely,
Mark B. Whitaker, Jr.
Departmental Representative to the
Defense
Nuclear Facilities Safety Board
