Dear Mr. Chairman:

 

The purpose of this letter is to report the status of two commitments in the Implementation Plan for Software Quality Assurance (SQA) in response to Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) Recommendation 2002-1.  The Department has completed the actions required by the following commitments:

 

Commitment 4.2.3.1 is to develop criteria and guidance for the identification, selection, and assessment of safety system software and firmware at defense nuclear facilities.  Revision 3 of the criteria review and approach document (CRAD) has been approved and is available on the Central Registry web site.

 

Commitment 4.2.4.1 is to develop criteria and guidance to assess the processes that are in place to ensure that safety software currently used to support the analysis and design of defense nuclear facilities is adequate.  Revision 3 of this CRAD has been approved and is available on the Central Registry web site.
