SUBJECT Requirement For Ansi Z88.2

QUESTION

Response Line Question: Can you tell me which DOE Orders require their Contractors to follow ANSI Z88.2? I'm aware that DOE O 440.1A is not implemented as of yet and need to understand if ANSI is applicable under the older 4-digit orders to our current contracts?

DOE Order 5480.4 specifies, ANSI Standard Z88.2 - 1980, "Practices for Respiratory Protection" , as a mandatory standard. This is stated in the second attachment to DOE Order 5480.4 entitled "Mandatory ES&H Standards (Policy Requirements)", in paragraph 2. d. (3) (b).

In addition, DOE Orders 5480.4 and 5483.1A requires contractors to comply with OSHA standards. OSHA updated its respiratory protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134, effective April 8, 1998) to incorporate many of the provisions contained in more current editions of ANSI Z88.2
