![]() The Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Hygiene Coordinating Committee (IHCC), in conjunction with the DOE Office of Environment, Safety and Health (EH), presented the 1999 DOE Industrial Hygiene Award to James O. Jackson, Ph.D., CIH, Hazards Control Department Head, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, at the DOE and DOE Contractor Partnering Workshop for Industrial Hygiene, June 9, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The award was established to acknowledge exceptional service and contributions to industrial hygiene programs and to recognize industrial hygienists who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the health protection of workers. Dr. Jackson was honored for his distinguished 30+ year career dedicated to teaching, research and program development, his skilled leadership, exemplary commitment and innumerable contributions to the Department and the industrial hygiene profession. The award, known informally as the “Don Ross Award” - in honor of Dr. Ross' pioneering work and lifetime accomplishments during his career with the AEC and DOE, and being the award’s first recipient - is presented annually by the IHCC and the DOE Office of Worker Health and Safety, EH-5. In the accompanying photo are Dr. Jackson (center), Dr. Ross (left) and IHCC Chair, John Serocki, EM-37. Eligibility for the award is open to all current and former DOE and DOE contractor employees engaged in the practice of industrial hygiene or allied occupational health professions.
