Dear Ms. Saalfeld:

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Worker Health and Safety would like to award certification maintenance points for its upcoming Chemical Safety Management 2000 Workshop. This annual event brings together industrial hygienists and other safety and health professionals to review progress to date regarding the Department's efforts to control chemical hazards at DOE sites and prevent chemical-related accidents.

The workshop, scheduled for October 24-26, will be held in the DOE Forrestal building auditorium and will also be video broadcast so that people at remote sites can participate.

During the 2-day workshop more than 20 presentations, training sessions, and round table discussions will deal with:

integrating safety principles into chemical safety management programs,

analyzing chemical safety at DOE facilities,

identifying chemical safety-related issues, and

establishing work-teams to propose solutions during the current fiscal year.

The draft agenda for the Washington, D.C., workshop is enclosed along with a completed meeting worksheet taken from your web site.

We have requested and received CIH maintenance points in the past for both our in-person attendees and remote participants. Following previously established procedures, there will be electronic registration and daily sign-in sheets (countersigned by responsible officials) and for the remote participants, the submittal of a DOE training form upon workshop completion.

I would appreciate your assistance in determining whether the in-person attendees and remote participants will be eligible for certification maintenance points. If you need any further information to assist in your determination, please contact me by telephone at (301) 903-3954 or by e-mail at the address shown below.

          Sincerely,

          [signed]
