"Safety Menu" or "Food for Thought"
Battelle Energy Alliance - Idaho National Laboratory
Because a significant number of our employees frequent the company cafeterias,
lunch rooms, and break rooms; this situation was determined to be an excellent
opportunity to communicate safety information to a "captured audience".
Using the same plastic menu holders, like you would see in a restaurant,
we place attractive safety reminders. These safety reminders can include such items
as the names of recent safety contest winners, information on up-coming safety meetings,
schedules for training, safety messages from management, lessons learned, program
reminders, etc.
These plastic holders are located on each of the eating tables. Employees
are being educated while they are having lunch or taking a break.

As part of our effort to promote and recognize safety and health program
excellence and achievement, the DOE VPP is looking for proven site work practices,
approaches, innovative solutions, and program models that can be shared and
communicated with others across the complex. If your site has a best practice
that you would like featured here, please contact us at
