National Poison Prevention Week was authorized by Congress and the President in 1961 by Public Law 87-319 (75 Stat.681). Last year, more than 2 million people called poison control centers for an emergency. The American Association of Poison Control Centers has launched a new national toll-free hot line. By calling 800-222-1222, anyone in the United States is automatically connected to their local poison treatment and prevention experts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All services are free and confidential, and available for the hearing impaired and non-English speakers. Please post the new hotline number on your telephone. It can help save someone's life.
