President Bush has requested a $437 million budget for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Fiscal Year 2003, including a $2.75 million increase in compliance assistance, outreach, and training activities. While the budget request reflects a very slight (one percent) decrease from the current general appropriations, it targets and expands OSHA outreach and compliance assistance activities affirming the important role OSHA plays in Homeland Security. The Department of Labor’s Assistant Secretary for OSHA, John L. Henshaw, stated;
"Workplace safety and health is a crucial component of Homeland Security and we will continue to focus much of our efforts in ensuring that employers and workers have the tools and guidance they need to be safe at their jobs."See article at: http://www.osha.gov/media/oshnews/feb02/trade-20020204.html.
