Marshall Islands Program - Chronology of Events
This web page provides access to a time-ordered
sequence of events and activities related to the U.S. government's nuclear
weapons testing program that occurred in the Marshall Islands from 1946
to 1958. Users may access this Chronology and its supporting documentation
in several ways as follows:
The report, entitled "Marshall
Islands Chronology, 1944 to 1990," is available in HTML for online browsing.
Each event in the report is cross-referenced via hyperlinks to documents
that support, and provide greater detail on, each event listed in the Chronology.
Within the Chronology itself, supporting documents can be viewed by:
- clicking on the highlighted number in parentheses that appears at
the end of each event to bring up a bibliographic description of the
document, and then
- clicking on the highlighted letter/number combination that appears
in the text or at the end of the bibliographic description. This action
retrieves a separate file containing the supporting document as described
by the bibliographic endnote.
A full listing of the bibliographic descriptions, along with links to their
supporting documents, can be browsed independently of the Chronology document
by selecting "Chronology
Endnotes."
If the user wants to isolate all related sections of the Chronology by date
or subject, a full-text search of the Chronology document (by date range,
keyword or phrase) can be performed by accessing the Search
system.
