These actions are:
1. Conduct Limited Scope Performance Tests (LSPTs) of
their Accountable Classified Removable Electronic Media
(ACREM) holdings every six months.
The above mentioned tasking is required to be completed
by all HSOs supporting organizations with ACREM holdings.
2. Verify every six months that the shredders used
by their organization to destroy classified and sensitive
matter are operating properly.
3. Remind users of Secure Telephone Units and Secure
Telephone Equipment (STUs/STEs) every three months
that it is time to re-key their machines.
Tasks #2 and #3 listed above are not required activities,
but it is highly recommended that the HSOs perform
these functions when notified to do so.
To assist the HSOs in accomplishing these tasks,
the HSO Program Manager will send out quarterly reminders
(in January, April, July, and October) of what actions
need to be accomplished. The reminder will be sent
via e-mail to each organizational HSO and Alternate
HSO. Attached to the e-mail will be instructions on
how to accomplish each action. For example, there
will be attachments explaining how to perform an ACREM
LSPT, how to examine a shredder, and how to re-key
a STU/STE. The HSO will be responsible for conducting
the ACREM LSPT, checking the shredder(s), and forwarding
re-keying instructions to STU/STE users in their organizations.
The HSO will also be responsible for keeping a local
record documenting the fact that these actions were
completed.
The ACREM LSPTs, instructions for checking shredders,
and re-keying STUs/STEs have already been developed.
Electronic versions of these documents are attached.
You may want to print them out or save them electronically
for future reference; however, they will be provided
to you in the periodic notifications from the HSO
Program Manager. Please note that there are five different
ACREM LSPTs, but you will be requested to conduct
only two of them every six months. It will take two
years to complete all the ACREM LSPTs. There is one
set of instructions for checking shredders, one set
for re-keying a STU, and one set of instructions for
re-keying a STE.
