CFAST

Central Registry Toolbox Code Version(s): V3.1.7 and 5.0.1
Code Owner: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Description: The Consolidated Model of Fire and Smoke Transport (CFAST) is a computer program that fire investigators, safety officials, engineers, architects and builders can use to simulate the impact of past or potential fires and smoke in a specific building environment. CFAST is a two-zone fire model used to predict the environment in a multi-compartment structure subjected to a fire. It calculates the time evolving distribution of smoke and fire gases and the temperature throughout a building during a user-specified fire.

Latest News: DOE and NIST have entered into an interagency agreement to enhance CFAST based upon the DOE 2004 evaluation performed and the gap analysis developed (see below). CFAST will be enhanced to include estimation of leakage path factors using the multi-factor formula in DOE Handbook Airborne Release Fractions/Rates and Respirable Fractions for Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities (DOE-HDBK-3010-94 Change Notice 1). This enhancement is expected to be released Summer 2007.
