DOE REMSView Help

for Version 2.0 and above

Purpose

The REMSView software is a data validation tool to be used when validating a data file prior to submission to the DOE Radiation Exposure Monitoring System (REMS) database.  The data file is checked for format and content in accordance with DOE Manual 231.1-1A, Chapter III and Appendix G.  The software is intended as an aid to DOE facilities in reviewing data files prior to submission to REMS and is a replacement for the software program REMEDIT.  The software will check the file for content and format and will generate a list of warnings and errors that need to be resolved prior to submission.

Please note that DOE Manual 231.1-1A, Chapter III requires annual data submittals to the Repository (REMS) by March 31st for dose records for the preceding year.

Scope

What REMSView Will Do:

What REMSView Will Not Do:

System

REMSView is a Java application. REMSView versions 2.0 and higher require Java version 1.4.2. The application will run on any computer platform that supports a version 1.4.2 or higher of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), including Windows, Mac, Unix, and others. Note that the JVM is also sometimers referred to as "Core Java", the "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)" or the "Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE or JSE)". To obtain a supported version of the JVM for your computer, go to the following URL and select "Downloads" from the left hand menu:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/corejava/

Validate Data

Select "Validate Data File" to point to the data file that you want to validate.  A file selection dialog box will appear.  Go the appropriate drive and directory, highlight the desired file, and select "Pick Data File".

Select Rules

Certain validation rules can be turned on or off. To do so, press "Select Rules" to display the list of rules than can be selected or turned off during validation. A check mark means that the rule is enabled. Once changes have been made press "Save Selections" to return to the main screen; or press "Cancel" to restore the previous settings and return to the main screen. The Rule Selection screen also allows you to display help on the rules or to reset the rule selections to their defaults. The selected rules will then be in effect during subsequent validation runs.

Save Results

To save the validation results, select "Save Results". Provide a directory name and select "Save Output to Selected Directory." The base filename (basename) of the input file will be used as the base filename for each of the output files. The onscreen validation text will be given the extension ".err". I.e. It will be saved in the file basename.err. Distribution information for the entire file will be saved to the file basename.dst. For each organization code (orgcode) encountered in the input file, distribution output for that organization code will be placed in a file with the name basename_orgcode.dst.

Show Format

Displays excerpts from DOE M231.1-1A, Appendix G, briefly summarizing the proper format for the input file.
