What is OR SIG?![]()
The Training Resources and Data Exchange (TRADE) Occurrence Reporting Special Interest Group (OR SIG) is a network of individuals interested in developing and implementing activities that standardize and enhance the occurrence reporting process and the utilization of occurrence reporting data throughout the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) community.
The focus of the OR SIG is on DOE Order 232.1A, Occurrence Reporting and Processing of Operations Information, and ORPS, the computerized method for transmitting, updating, approving, storing, distributing, and analyzing occurrence reports required by the Order.
Members of the SIG can exchange tools and information that can help solve common problems in such areas as lessons learned, system problems, root cause analysis, categorization of occurrences, interpretation of specific DOE Orders (such as DOE 232.1A), and creation of occurrence reports.
The OR SIG currently has more than 700 members from DOE and DOE contractor facilities. OR SIG activities are coordinated and guided by the OR SIG Steering Committee.
During FY98, the OR SIG developed the Trending and Analysis Primer, a valuable collection of links to trending and analysis tools, techniques, and products. Other OR SIG products include the Occurrence Reporting Point-of-Contact List, the Occurrence Reporting Program Guidance Document which was created to share guidelines, good practices, and lessons learned about occurrence reporting and operations information with the goal of standardizing occurrence reporting practices, the Occurrence Reporting Course Training Materials: Introduction to Occurrence Reporting; Occurrence Report Writing; and Reportable Occurrence Investigative Techniques and the Checklist for Occurrence Report Review. In addition, the SIG publishes an annual update of the OR SIG Brochure, which includes background information on the SIG as well as a description of the OR SIG task teams, and also publishes and distributes two OR SIG Bulletins per year to the OR SIG membership.
Two OR SIG meetings are held each year, one in the fall and the other in the spring in conjunction with the annual ORPS Workshop. The OR SIG steering committee meets during these two meetings and, in addition, holds monthly conference calls or meetings, as necessary, to plan SIG activities.
